Celebrating Cultural Diversity Through Art
We are proud to share that the Alum Rock and Santa Clara Street Business Association was awarded a $15,000 grant from District 5 Councilmember Peter Ortiz in 2024. This generous funding supported the creation of a stunning Vietnamese community mural, a tribute to the vibrant cultural diversity within District 5.
The mural became a powerful symbol of unity and pride, educating and connecting residents while showcasing the rich heritage of our community. Alongside the mural, we hosted a celebratory event honoring the unique traditions and stories that make District 5 so special.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Councilmember Ortiz for championing this project and helping us bring this vision to life. Together, we celebrated the beauty and strength of our diverse community!
Enhancing Our Neighborhood Through Beautification
In partnership with the Office of Economic Development and Cultural Affairs, we proudly utilized a Beautification Grant from District 3 to improve the Alum Rock East Santa Clara neighborhood. This grant supported essential services provided by Downtown Streets, a nonprofit dedicated to serving unhoused individuals in Northern California, while enhancing the cleanliness and safety of our community.
Through this initiative, the project successfully removed 5,247 gallons of trash, 156 cigarette butts, and 18 needles from our streets, creating a cleaner, more welcoming environment for residents and visitors. Additionally, 14 outreach encounters and 15 resource bags were distributed, providing direct support to individuals in need.
We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the beautification of our neighborhood and extend our thanks to the District 3 Office for their ongoing commitment to making San José a vibrant and safe place for all.

Over the years, the Alum Rock Santa Clara Street Business Association has remained dedicated to enhancing our neighborhood and supporting our members. Among our proud accomplishments are the installation of improved street lighting for our business owners, ensuring safer, well-lit spaces for both businesses and visitors. Additionally, we have prioritized tree care throughout the district, contributing to a greener, more welcoming environment that reflects the vibrant spirit of our community. These efforts highlight our unwavering commitment to making our district a place where businesses thrive and the community feels proud to call home.
